New special  water reservoirs planned to be built in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyz President Sadyr Zhaparov announced that he had ordered the construction of special pools for collecting water throughout the country.

In an interview with the country's official KABAR news agency, Zhaparov spoke about the country's external debt, the construction of the Kambar-Ata hydroelectric power plant (HPP) and dam, as well as water problems in Central Asia.

Noting that farmers are experiencing water shortages during the irrigation period due to insufficient water storage, Zhaparov said that he had commissioned the construction of reservoirs throughout the country to store irregular water flow.

Zhaparov stressed that these reservoirs will be useful to neighboring countries, primarily during the irrigation period.

We use only 1% of the Naryn River water for irrigation and drinking water

"99 percent of the water of the Naryn River is used by neighboring countries – Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. For example, we have started the construction of the Kambar-Ata-1 hydroelectric power plant and a dam on this river. When we complete the construction of this hydroelectric power plant, we will produce energy in winter. During the irrigation period, we will give our neighboring countries as much water as they want. It will be beneficial for the neighbors. We think not only about ourselves, but also about our neighbors, because our neighborhood is eternal and we must think together about common problems. It is absurd to say that standing at the source of the current, we cannot provide water. We are all brothers, eternal neighbors and depend on each other in many ways. Everyone knows this perfectly well."

Stating that they will soon receive a loan for the construction of the Kambar-Ata-1 HPP, Zhaparov said: "If the Kambar-Ata-1 HPP is completed, it will pay off in 12-13 years. This will benefit the state for many years to come, such as the Toktogul HPP, which is now in operation."

Pointing to the importance of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project in order for the country to become a transit country, Zhaparov said that they have no problems paying off the external debt ($6 billion).
